A couple months ago, I came across a quote on Pinterest that stuck out to me in a weird way.
The quote made me feel a little uneasy, nostalgic, hopeful, and somber at the same time. I pinned it onto my board of quotes that I’ve labeled, “Enlightenment”, because at the end of the day, these quotes make me understand or see things differently.
At the time, I had no idea that these song lyrics belonged to Bastille from the band’s song, “Pompeii”. Many people offer their own interpretation of what the specific lyrics mean or song means. There’s no right or wrong explanation.
I relate these lyrics to my experience.
These lyrics mean that despite everything that you’ve done or set out to do, nothing really has differed from where you last left things–after you’ve returned. In the end, it feels like you’ve been in this situation before, everything’s the same, and everyone’s the same. You’d think things around you would be different, but maybe it’s just you that has changed.
